How We Rank (0–10 Scale)
Each item is scored 0–10 across these key parameters:
- Leather Quality & Type: Full-grain (highest), top-grain, or avoid genuine/split. Natural patina, durability.
- Price & Value: Value for money relative to materials and craftsmanship.
- Craftsmanship & Construction: Stitching, edges, lining. Even, tight stitches; smooth finished edges.
- Hardware: Heavy, solid hardware. Zippers and clasps operate smoothly.
- Structure & Functionality: Holds shape or intentionally soft. Sturdy handles, reinforced straps.
- Design & Utility: Originality, aesthetics, functional pockets, comfortable weight.
Quick Evaluation Checklist:
- Smell: Real leather, not plastic or chemicals.
- Touch: Soft and pliable, not stiff or vinyl-like.
- Water test: Real leather absorbs water, leaving a temporary dark spot.
- Consistency: Natural minor imperfections OK; quality stitching mandatory.
